Stahlkammer - Hybrid construction system
This research project investigates in depth the potential of the newly developed composite system “Stahlkammer” encouraging a pivotal change in residential construction towards more sustainable, long-lasting and cost-effective modular building solutions. The main objective is supporting the implementation of this system into current market through the development of design guidelines based on extensive experimental and numerical investigations.
The product “Stahlkammer” defines a newly developed composite structural system made of cold-formed recycled steel C-profiles and the eco-friendly “Cleancrete©”. This is a cement-free concrete consisting of clay or excavated material, water and the natural additive Oxacrete© resulting in a 90% CO2 consumption reduction compared to standard concrete. A five-storey building is being analysed where the single components can be demounted and reused in the frame of circular economy. The versatility of this system makes the design of inner spaces flexible and suitable for a wide range of applications.
